SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) is the national secondary school leaving exam taken by Form 5 students, typically at age 17.
It covers up to 10 subjects spanning sciences, humanities, languages, and technical streams.
Results directly determine access to matriculation, STPM, Form 6, and local university intake.

SPM is held annually in October–November. Results are typically released in March the following year.
Students typically sit 8–10 subjects. Bahasa Malaysia, English, Sejarah, and Moral/Islamic Studies are compulsory. The remaining subjects are electives.
Most parents start tuition in Form 4 (the year before SPM). However, Form 5 intensive tuition starting January still makes a significant difference for most subjects.
