Requirements vary by country, university, and course — UK and Australian universities commonly require an overall band of 6.0–7.0 for undergraduate entry, with more competitive courses and postgraduate programmes requiring 7.0–7.5 or higher. IELTS Academic is for university admission and assesses more formal, academic English, including describing charts and graphs in Writing Task 1.
